Report on the 2002 R.O.C. Adults and Students Survey on Environmental Protection Knowledge

Major findings of this survey are summarized as follows: I、Garbage treatment and recycling: 1.96% of the college students supported recycling. 2.97% of the college students were willing to purchase recycled products. 3.45% of the adults always did recycling at home. 4.97% of the adults followed rules and scheduled time of delivering garbage. 5.96% of the college students supported that residents deliver garbage directly on to the collection trucks at the certain sites and on the scheduled time. 6.93% of the college students were willing to recycle kitchen leftover. II、Water quality protection and drinking water safety: 1.23% of the adults knew that 2002 is the year of River Clean-up. 2.If finding industries releasing wastewater at night or on holidays, 86% of the senior high school students, 83% of the adults and the college students, and 80% of the junior high school students would reported it to the authorities. 3.73% of the adults and 74% of the college students made the running water as the main drinking water source at home. 4.68% of the junior high school students and 48% of the elementary school students brought drinking water from home. III、Air quality improvement and noise: 1. 49% of the adults and 40% of the college students answered correctly that a motorcycle should be examined every year after purchased. 2. Most adults and students would turn down volume when singing, watching TV, playing piano at home to improve noise pollution. IV、Environmental sanitary: 1. More students knew that the media of dengue fever are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus than the adults did. 2. 64% of the adults would “definitely” clean up water in containers actively to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. 3. 30% of the elementary school students said that they attended the Clean-up Week to clean up the surrounding of their household in the middle of August 2002.
